Meet Our Minister:
Jay and Diana Thornell
Hi! My name is Jay Thornell and I have served as a minister with the Grand Strand Church of Christ since August of 2002. I find it difficult to describe what I do. In a nutshell I would say this about my ministry: I listen to God and I listen to people. I talk to God and I talk to people.
Doesn't sound like much, does it? But
what I tell our church members is that they should never hesitate to call me.
After all, God called me to the Beach to answer their calls, to listen, to talk, and to pray.
I
like the beach. So does my wife and daughter. My little girl is a water magnet.
I don't know how many times we have gone for "just a walk" on the beach
only to end up with our beloved in the water. If you are looking to move here, I
would applaud your decision. We think Myrtle Beach
is a great place to live.
We
also think that this church is a great one to serve the Lord with. On a personal
note the church has always treated me better than I deserve. From a professional
perspective, the comment I often hear from newcomers relates to how well this
church demonstrates love for each other. No, we don't love perfectly, but we
do love well. And that makes this church the kind of community where you can
find some peace and joy in the middle of a difficult world.
Our theme for 2010 is "MORE THAN BREAD." Our memory verse for the year is, "Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God" (Matthew 4:4). Bread goes bad over time and so will we if that is all we eat. God's word endures forever. This year we want to focus on shaping our lives around God instead of metaphorical bread. Study, fasting, prayer, service - these are just a few of the things we want to do together this year as we seek to live on more than bread. Come join us. We'd enjoy your company!
Contact us on the web, come visit our church, or stop by to meet me in person. There's no need to be shy. After all, I'm the worst sinner I know. No one leaves my presence with me thinking that I am better than him. I'd love to be able to help you to find the healing I have found in Jesus!
