Ministry Definitions

The Grand Strand Church of Christ has designed functional ministries to carry out the work of the Lord.  The purpose of each ministry has been provided below.  Please be aware that each ministry has a mail box in the Administration Room for correspondence.  A current list of Chairpersons can be found on the bulletin board.

Audiovisuals : Eddie & Cheryl Paul

The Audiovisual Ministry maintains our audiovisual systems for the church and their utilization during church services/programs.

Benevolence:  Dick Spangler

This ministry focuses on providing for the physical needs of both the church membership and the community.

Building & Grounds:  Shane Boyd

This group maintains the building (cleaning and repair) and the grounds (landscaping and exterior)  of the church.

Caring Groups:  Brian May

Caring Groups meet on the first Sunday of each month.  They are defined geographically and generally charged with growing in fellowship, keeping up with each other, having a lesson/devotional and a fellowship meal or snacks.  "Welcome Home" dinners to meet and get to know new members also fall under this ministry.

Children's Ministry:  Shane & Melissa Boyd

The Children's Ministry is for all children in grades K-5.  It is designed to build faith and relationships among our children by offering a variety of programs.

Education-Non-Adult:  Gina Gordon & Sue Craddock

This group oversees the educational needs for all age groups within the congregation (excluding the adult class).  This includes teachers and curriculum.

Education-Adult:  Jay Thornell / The Elders

This group oversees the educational needs for all the adult classes.  This includes teachers and curriculum.

Family Care:  Barbara Duncan

This ministry is one of awareness and assistance within the congregation.  This includes baby and bridal showers, welcome baskets and bibles for new members, gifts for the ill or hospitalized, memorial gifts, cards for birthdays, anniversaries or "missing you", transportation to doctor appointments as needed, and Ladies Prayer Pal program.  Food for the ill or hospitalized and for funerals is the responsibility of Family Care, but is carried out within the Caring Groups.

Fellowship:  Helen Tesner

The charter of the Fellowship ministry is to foster member relationships and integrate new members through planned social events.  They also promote special interest groups such as youth, senior citizens, young married couples and singles.

Finance and Admin:  Herb Brinkerhoff

This group handles all the financial and legal issues confronting the church.  They create the budget for congregational review and approval.  This ministry also handles all internal communications, i.e., the bulletin.

Greeters: Nick Pritchard

This ministry is an organized way for our members to help visitors feel welcome and help them to have an uplifting experience with our congregation so they will want to come back.  A Visitors Information Packet is maintained as part of this effort.  Our goal is to be a warm and inviting church.

Involvement:  Brad Kibler

This ministry serves to connect members of the church with areas of opportunity to serve and be involved in church activities beyond attendance at services.  An inventory of areas of opportunity is maintained and the interests of individuals determined.

Missions: Chuck Duncan

This group is responsible for ongoing liaison with existing missionary efforts that we support both internationally and within the United States.  This ministry also reviews requests for missionary support and identifies new opportunities to serve God in spreading His teachings throughout the world (Matthew 28:19-20).  The ministry also keeps the Missions Bulletin Board updated.

Reach Out:  Shane Boyd

This ministry is a companion to the Greeters Ministry.  Reach Out has four major areas of work including visiting, telephoning, sharing meals and prayer.  The primary purpose of this program is to show love to individuals who have recently attended a worship assembly.  In addition, this program includes communication with the community through various media.

Small Group Ministry:  Elders

A variety of small groups meet on a regular basis including the following.  New groups are formed as needed:
*An "over 40's" group with various activities throughout the year--Christie Richards.

*A "20s & 30s" group for the younger members' activities--Jay Thornell.
    *Elders/new members' luncheons--Elders.
*A college-age/young adults group which meets on Sunday nights--Chuck Cahoon.
*Ladies Bible Study group--Rita Nein and Nan Soles.

Worship:  Jay Thornell

This ministry focuses on the worship assembly and the adult classes.  It is their goal to see that the body is spiritually uplifted in the worship service.

Youth Ministry:  Kevin & Michelle Cornine

This ministry is for grades 6-12 and focuses on the issues confronting our youth.  Programs and activities are those which promote spiritual growth, with a goal of building leaders for the next generation.
